Indian stalwart batsman Virat Kohli received the ICC ODI Player of the Year award and was also selected for ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year 2023 in New York. Team India is all set to play their T20 World Cup 2024 opening match against Ireland on June 5.

After struggling with inconsistent form for some years, Kohli yet again witnesses the peak of his illustrious career in 2023. Featuring 27 ODI matches, the veteran scored 1,377 runs with an average of 72.47 and a strike rate of 99.13. Kohli also scored six centuries and eight half-centuries with a highest score of unbeaten 166 runs.
In Asia Cup 2023, Kohli played a crucial role for India by scoring unbeaten 122 runs off 94 deliveries against arch-rivals Pakistan in a Super four stage game.
During the concluded ODI World Cup 2023, playing 11 matches, Virat Kohli accumulated 765 runs with an average of 95.62. He registered three centuries and six half-centuries with a best score of 117 runs. Ending the global showpiece as the leading run-scorer, Kohli attained the feat of scoring the most runs in a single World Cup edition. With this, he broke the record of Indian great Sachin Tendulkar. The legendary Indian batsman Tendulkar scored 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup. Virat Kohli also broke Tendulkar's record of the most ODI centuries which was 49. In the semi-finals against New Zealand, Virat scripted history by smashing the 50th ton in ODI history.
Now, Virat will take to the field in Indian colours for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in the West Indies and the USA. He comes into this tournament after winning the Orange Cap for most runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 741 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of over 154, with a century and five fifties. His best score of 113'.
