London: English Premier League football club Arsenal's midfielder Jack Wilshere has suffered a hairline fracture to his right ankle.
The injury can keep him out for six to eight weeks.
The England international suffered a heavy tackle at training on Saturday, a day before Arsenal's 1-0 triumph over Chelsea in the final of Community Shield, reports bbc.co.uk on Thursday.
He will not require surgery but he is expected to miss the first two months of the new season.
The 23-year-old's career has been plagued with injuries. Last season too he was sidelined for five months following a left ankle injury.
After two surgeries he returned to play in the Football Association (FA) Cup final where Arsenal beat Aston Villa 4-0.
In June, he played in England's friendly draw with the Republic of Ireland and their victory over Slovenia in an European Championship qualifier.
Both ankles have required surgery since he first sustained a stress fracture in his right ankle during pre-season in 2011 and was ruled out for 17 months.
