After ordering football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to pay 18.8 million euros to settle a tax fraud claim, Spanish authorities have reduced the sum by two million euros, the El Mundo daily reported yesterday. Spain's taxman and Ronaldo's advisors made the deal to settle claims for hiding income generated from image rights while he was playing for Real Madrid.
According to El Mundo, the tax authorities realised he paid two million euros too much last year for image rights he sold in 2014.
On 10 July 2018, Ronaldo moved away from Real Madrid and signed a four-year contract with Italian club Juventus after completing a â¬100 million transfer, plus solidarity contributions to Ronaldo's youth clubs and an additional â¬12 million in other fees. The transfer was the highest ever for a player over 30 years old, and the highest ever paid by an Italian club. Upon signing, Ronaldo cited his need for a new challenge as his rationale for departing Real Madrid.
