London: Chelsea team doctor Eva Carneiro's reported sidelining by her club is "unjust in the extreme", a group representing EPL doctors said on Thursday after British media reported that Carneiro will no longer attend matches or training sessions after manager Jose Mourinho criticised her and physiotherapist Jon Fearn for running on to the pitch to treat Eden Hazard during last weekend's 2-2 draw with Swansea City.

In a statement, the EPL doctors' group said: "We consider removing Dr Carneiro from the Chelsea team bench for their next match is unjust and extreme. In the publicised incident in the match against Swansea, the Chelsea medical staff were summoned on to the field of play by the referee to attend to a player. A refusal to run onto the pitch would have breached the duty of care required of the medical team to the patient."

Meanwhile, lawyer Glenn Hayes, a partner and employment law specialist with solicitors Irwin Mitchell, felt Carneiro could sue Chelsea. "If Mourinho said whatever based on the fact that Carneiro is a woman and not a man then she has been treated differently because of her sex. So effectively, Carneiro could bring a claim against both Mourinho and Chelsea," said Hayes.
