Bogota: Freddy Rincon, the former Colombia star who played for Real Madrid, Napoli and Corinthians, is wanted for questioning by Interpol on money laundering and drugs-related criminal conspiracy charges.
Rincon, who starred for Colombia at the 1990 World Cup, is suspected of fronting for a firm used by Colombian drug dealers to launder money in neighbouring Panama.
Now 48, Rincon said he was "surprised" by the 'red notice' Interpol issued on its website, which seeks "the location and arrest of wanted persons with a view to extradition or similar lawful action".
"Panama has no evidence against me", Rincon told Colombian weekly Semana. "I find it very strange that this Interpol order appears right around the time I am trying to get back into football."
Rincon has recently been linked with a return to America de Cali, where he played at the beginning of his career between 1990 and 1993.
