Bangalore: India forward Robin Singh yesterday admitted that his all-important strike against Guam came as relief to his side.

Singh's right-footed curler found the top right corner of the Guam goal in the first half and was enough for India to secure their first points in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.

The away team's head coach Gary White described Robin's strike as a 'world-class finish' but the Delhi Dynamos forward believes the goal was created by the team.

"The goal was welcoming. It has taken a burden off me and the team as well. We have lost very narrow games and this was a game we wanted to win and want to win in the future," Robin said.

"Hats off to the team, I wouldn't have scored if it wasn't for my team. They were there in the right place at the right time. I thank the coach and my teammates," he added.

The win meant India earned their first points in a rather difficult World Cup Qualification campaign and Robin stressed that his goal was just the cherry on the cake.

"I will let others be the judge of that (if this was my best performance). I don't know if that is my best performance or not, I am just happy that we won the game. The boys have worked hard. The goal has definitely got me get settled into the team as well," he added.

Robin reserved special praise for the support the team received on the night. "Playing in front of the Bangalore crowd is really amazing. I thank them for coming and believing in me. I just play every game with all my heart that goals will come," the forward concluded.
