Neville will officially take charge of Los Che next week following his introduction earlier in the week, but watched on from the stands at the Mestalla as Valencia made it hard work for Barca while also riding their luck - the visitors spurned a series of chances in the first half.
There was a hint of offside as Luis Suarez broke the deadlock just before the hour, latching on to a ball over the top and then beating Jaume Domenech at his near post from close range.
But with time running out Paco Alcacer laid the ball off for 19-year-old Mina to thump home the equaliser.
The draw leaves Barca two points clear of second-placed Atletico and four ahead of Real after wins for both Madrid clubs. Goals from Diego Godin and Antoine Griezmann saw Atletico beat Granada 2-0.
Godin struck with his first goal of the season after 20 minutes and Griezmann wrapped up the win late on with a fine effort.
However, it was another frustrating evening for Fernando Torres, who is still looking for his 100th Atletico goal but has now not scored for 13 matches.
