Santa Clara (US): Spanish football giants Real Madrid finished its first pre-season match on a disappointing note, losing to Manchester United in the International Champions Cup 2-1 in penalty shootout after the 90-minute game ended 1-1.

Casemiro, the author of Real Madrid's only goal in the 68th minute, missed the final penalty shot that could have helped the team go further here on Sunday, reports Efe.

For the Red Devils, Sunday's game was the fourth pre-season match. It was the young Frenchman Anthony Martial who made a spectacular move and gave Manchester United their first goal in the match.

Martial crossed the baseline and outmaneuvered three Real Madrid rivals before passing the ball to Jesse Lingard for the goal in the last minute of the first half.

The 1-1 draw sent the game to a penalty shootout. The two teams will be pitted against each other again on August 8 in the UEFA Super Cup.
