When you think of former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, a montage of images of his exemplary warrior-like skills emerges. Such was the Serbian international's excellence as a renowned centre back that he almost achieved demigod status during his 300 uncompromising appearances for the Red Devils from 2006-14. And all that almost seemed to be untrue yesterday as Vidic made his way through the ballroom of a city hotel for a chat with select media.

The man, who displayed innate defensive acumen during his time at Old Trafford, sauntered in with a broad smile, calm and ready to answer any questions at ease.

Unlike his time, where manager Sir Alex Ferguson used to assert complete control, the scene today has almost turned flipside. Jose Mourinho's recent friction with his French star striker Paul Pogba in the Man United dressing room has raised questions whether the football player has grown bigger than his manager. It's the harsh truth, according to Vidic.

"Football is changing. The football player now has much more power than before. If you see Didier Drogba, he's has value. The younger generation too come with a certain value, so it's difficult for managers to establish themselves if they don't win trophies. Mourinho is a different case. He will always have a reputation and respect from the players, but I think the younger generation have become bigger than the manager. I don't think Mourinho would have a problem with that," Vidic said on the sidelines of The Football Movement hosted by Premier League and India on Track.

Quizzed whether he would like to don the manager's hat, Vidic added: "I'm doing a pro license course, so I'm still in learning mode. I'm not seeing myself as a manager yet as I'm trying to increase my skills."
