Team of The Year should've had all 11 Chelsea players: Mourinho

Manager Jose Mourinho says all members of his EPL champions-elect outfit, and not just six as picked by PFA, deserved to be in the Premier League's TOTY

London: Six Blues players were named in the PFA's best XI for the 2014-15 season but Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho felt the entire team should be made up of his league leaders.

Six Blues stars - Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa - made the final line-up, which was selected by top-flight footballers and released on Sunday.

And while Mourinho respects the decisions reached by the voting players, he believes his first-choice XI should have been recognised, and that the omitted Cesc Fabregas is the most deserving of a place.

Asked if there should've been more than six Chelsea players, he replied: "Yes. All of them. But I know this is a Chelsea manager speaking and I respect every one of the players that were in that team.

The players from the other teams have the right to choose. Great players are in that team and great players outside the team. But Fabregas is doing a number of assists, the quality of his game, so he not being there is a bit strange. That team wouldn't win the Premier League. That team is missing a midfield player - that midfield player should be Fabregas."

Meanwhile, Mourinho rejected any suggestion the champions-elect of England are boring to watch. Sunday's scoreless draw with Arsenal was greeted with chants of 'boring, boring Chelsea' from home fans at the Emirates Stadium, although the point gained took the Blues closer to claiming the EPL title.

The taunts came on the back of a run of narrow wins that helped Chelsea establish a 10-point lead at the top of the table.

But Chelsea manager Mourinho instead pointed to a tally of 65 goals in 33 league games so far this season - a total bettered only by second-placed defending champs Manchester City, who've scored 70 goals in 34 games - as proof of the Blues' attacking instincts.

He said: "If we are boring, and if the number of goals is what decides if a team is good or bad, boring or not, then we have 18 teams in the Premier League, who are more boring than us. But if a good team is the team with more points, we are the best team. If a good team is the team with most victories, we are the best team."
