It was far from the World No 1's most commanding performance but it meant he has not dropped a set since the US Open final against Roger Federer in early September.
He has now won 26 sets in a row, taking him past his own previous best of 24 which he achieved in early 2014. The Serb has won three of the four Grand Slam titles and five of the eight Masters 1000 series titles so far contested this year.
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray both made short work of their opponents to reach the last 16 at the Paris Masters on Wednesday.
Murray swept past Croatian youngster Borna Goric 6-1, 6-2 in just 59 minutes.
Nadal then took two minutes longer to send old foe Lukas Rosol crashing out, defeating the big-serving Czech 6-2, 6-2 for his place in the last 16.
