Also, their attempts to break into the Bank of Maharashtra ATM at Morwadi and a UCO Bank ATM in Kharalwadi were reportedly unsuccessful.

Still, it is not going to be easy for the police. It seems the three would-be robbers had their faces covered.
Nasir Ismail Shikalkar (53), manager of UCO Bank, filed a complaint at the Pimpri police station yesterday morning.

Guard threatened
The police said three unidentified men came in a grey Innova and threatened a security guard at the Bank of Maharashtra before toiling for 16 minutes to break open the ATM. The guard alerted the control room soon after the incident, and the three fled to the UCO Bank ATM centre in Khuralwadi.

The police said they would have to work hard on the case as the footage showed the robbers with their faces covered; only their eyes could be seen.

Investigating officer API S S Sawant said the miscreants hitu00a0 hard on the camera attached to the machine, but before the camera stopped functioning it captured their images.

"After the unsuccessful attempt to make their way towards the cash room, three of them barged into the manager's cabin and broke his cupboard, but nothing was reportedly stolen," said Sawant.

"On the basis of the description shared by the security guard and the information shared by our sources,
we believe that a gang involved in manufacturing illegal weapons could be behind this act," said PI (Crime) Nandakumar Pinjan.
