Gelfand holds reigning champion Anand for a ninth draw; one more game left to avoid tie-breaker in world championship


The 11th game of the World Chess Championship between defending champion Viswanathan Anand and Israeli challenger Boris Gelfand ended in yet another stalemate.

Saturday's draw was the ninth between the duo, both share a win each, as the scores now stand at 5.5-5.5.

The 24-move draw, it was the third straight tie in the Championship, under the normal time control gives the Indian Grandmaster a slight edge as he plays with white in the last game.

If the deadlock continues, the winner will be decided via short tie-break games.

The Indian Grandmaster's Nizmo Indian Defence proved a point when he came out with a rare move on the eighth turn.u00a0Gelfand wasted for 30 minutes after this, but still failed to take advantage.

Silver for Indian men

China: Indian men beat Iraq 4-0 to win silver in the Asian Nations Chess Cup on Saturday.

P Harikrishna, Parimarjan Negi, Abhijeet Gupta and G N Gopal collected 15 points to finish second behind China-1, who beat Mongolia 3.5-0.5 to win gold.
In the women's event, India secured bronze.
