World No 4 Andy Murray has sacked his coach Miles Maclagan, his management company 19 Entertainment said yesterday.

Former professional player Maclagan (35) had been on Murray's coaching team for two and a half years.

Murray (23) is currently competing in Los Angeles in the Farmers Classic, his first tournament since his Wimbledon semi-final loss to Rafael Nadal.

For the time being, the Scot will work with former Spanish star Alex Corretja pending the appointment of a new coach. "I've had a great relationship with Miles over the past two and a half years and I want to thank him for his positive contribution to my career," Murray said in a statement.

Maclagan said: "It's been a privilege to work with Andy as his coach and I'm happy to have played my part in his career."

Murray is still waiting to break his Grand Slam duck despite several near misses and former coach Mark Petchey said the Scot doubtless felt he needed fresh input. "They've just got to the end of the road," Petchey, Murray's coach from 2005 to 2006, told Sky Sports News.

Petchey said things had gone "a little bit south" for Murray this season, prompting the Scot to look elsewhere to galvanise his game.
