Top seed and defending champion Andy Murray crashed out of the Valencia Open at the second round stage after a shock 6-2 3-6 6-2 defeat to Argentina's World No 25 Juan Monaco.
Monaco, beaten by Murray in the semis in Shanghai last week, got on top of the tired Scot breaking Murray's second service game and comfortably taking the first set.
Monaco looked on course for a straight sets win when he broke Murray at the start of the second but the favourite immediately rallied to break back and swiftly force a deciding set. But the Argentine refused to let slip and broke Murray early in the decider and continued to serve out strongly to book his place in the quarters.
