The 13-year-old jumped 5.91m, beating the 2007 record of 5.73m in the under-14 category during the MSSA inter-school athletics meet at the University Pavilion, Marine Lines yesterday.
However, Anil, who was to compete in the discus throw final today, decided to give it a miss in order to participate in Sunday's DSO (District Sports Office) Athletic Meet in Pune.
"I wanted to go for a hat-trick of titles tomorrow, but unfortunately I will not be able to do it as I will be competing in a DSO meet. Winning at DSO will give me recognition," said Anil justifying his absence.
However, he is confident about wining medals in all the three disciplines (high jump, long jump and discus throw) at the DSO meet.
"Just like Mumbai, I am confident of doing well in Pune too," he said. Meanwhile, 14-year-old Mamata Hulke of Apostolic Carmel, Bandra also created a new record by winning gold in the girls' U-16 200m race in 26 seconds, improving the record time by 0.7 seconds.
