Netherlands failed to break through Denmark's defence in the first half of their World Cup opener, but the Dutch eventually cruised to a 2-0 win courtesy of a Simon Poulsen own goal and a Dirk Kuyt tap-in.
Playmaker Wesley Sneijder acknowledged that Oranje were far from impressive before the interval, but the Inter star was quite satisfied with the final result.
"The first victory is always the most important one. We did not play well in the first half, but we did well in the second half of the match. We are happy with the result and we are looking forward to the next match," said Sneijder in the post-match press conference.
"It is too early to say Netherlands can win the World Cup. We did not play well but we won 2-0. I won't place a bet on Oranje to lift the trophy, because I do not bet, and I especially do not bet on myself."
Meanwhile, former Danish star Martin Laursen wasn't surprised with his country's loss.
"We played well in the first half and did everything we needed to do. It was all going well and we had given ourselves a great foundation. Unfortunately, we conceded at the start of the second half. That really took the wind from our sails. We still could have played better but didn't really create anything offensively.
