The opening match on court no 6 between Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna turned out to be a clear preparation for the Olympics

The Indian pair thrashed Marcel Felder from Uruguay and Malek Jaziri from Tunisia in straight sets 6-0, 7-6 (1), 6-2 to reach the second round of Wimbledon yesterday.u00a0

The seventh seeded pair started off aggressively by winning the first set in just 17 minutes. Their unseeded opponents made their presence felt only in the second set, where both sides holding tightly on their serve, stretched into the tiebreaker.

Bhupathi and Bopanna raced to set point by winning six points in a row. They lost the next point but managed to win the next to go 2-0 up.

The tight second set had clearly affected Bhupathi-Bopanna's body language. However, knowing the weakness of their opponents, the Indian duo charged early to break Jaziri's serve in the third game and galloped again in the fifth game to break Felder's serve to a comfortable victory in the third set.

Bhupathi-Bopanna had reached the third round in this year's Australian Open. They were knocked out in the first round of the French Open earlier this month.u00a0
