Bombay Scottish boy wants to do better than big brother Yash Nair in badminton
YUG Nair of Bombay Scottish (Mahim) displayed some fine strokeplay to defeat Sidhesh Yadav in straight games 21-6, 21-16 in the quarter-final of the Nike-MSSA inter-school badminton tournament for the boys under-10 held at the Indian Gymkhana (Matunga) yesterday.
His elder brother, Yash Nair, has been an inspiration to the nine-year-old Yug. He wants to better all his brother's achievements.
Yug said: "My brother inspired me to play badminton. He used to always finish second in tournaments. I want to accomplish more than what my brother could."
Yug also captains his school football team but is determined in making a career in badminton. Seeded second here, Yug claims the title is not too far from his reach after reaching the semi-final. "Today I played well but I need to continue in this way if I want to win the title," he said.
Top seed Viraj Kuvale of IES Public School also booked a place in the semi-final. Yug had played Viraj Kuvale in the district final where he succumbed to pressure but claimed he is going to change things around this time.
