After 25 gruelling days, 13-year-olds from Don Bosco, Matunga can finally rest their heels. The inter-school giants overcame a tough schedule that at times saw them playing as many as three games within 24 hours, to win the MSSA Div I under-14 title. They beat St Pius (Mulund) 4-3 via the tie-breaker penalties after regulation time turned out to be a goalless affair.
Don Bosco coach Mohan Pillay claimed his lads have undergone a trying time and have not had any respite throughout September. "We have been playing continuously for the lastu00a0 25 days without a day's rest. As though playing two games a day was not enough, we have even played thrice in 24 hours givenu00a0 the three tournaments that have been on, almost simultaneously ufffd the Utpal Sanghvi Knockout tournament, District State Office (DSO) competition and the Subroto Cup," he explained.
Interestingly, Don Bosco had to forfeit their semi-final match of the DSO tournament as they had to play the MSSA U-14 final later in the day. "We had no option, but to forfeit the game. We had to play this final as this is more important to us," added Pillay.
This was the fifth time in six years that Don Bosco has won the U-14 tournament proving just why they are considered firm favourites for any tournament they participate in.
