Mumbai Tennis Masters suffered their second defeat in the second edition of the Champions Tennis League (CTL) after they lost 1-4 to Raipur Rangers at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) yesterday.
Richard Krajicek gave Mumbai the lead as he comfortably beat former World No 1 Thomas Muster 5-3 in the legends match.
Raipur's Alize Cornet then levelled the tie, getting the better of reigning US Open champion Flavia Pennetta 5-2 in the women's singles.
Super point wasted
The third set played between the mixed doubles pair of Santiago Giraldo and Pennetta vs Roberto Bautista Agut and Cornet saw the home team use the super point after they were trailing 4-2 to make it 4-3 in their favour.
(Super point was won by Mumbai's junior Mihika Yadav before the start of the tie by hitting the stationary target kept on the service line of the opposite court). The move didn't seem to do any good to the home side as they lost the set 5-3.
The visitors seemed to have an upper edge going into the break as they were leading 2-1 (13-10). Bautista Agut paired up with Ramkumar Ramanathan in the men's doubles to defeat Mumbai pair of Giraldo and Sriram Balaji 5-2.
The final match - men's singles - match between Giraldo and Bautista Agut was an inconsequential one, as Raipur was leading
3-1.
Nonethless, the 27-year-old Spaniard beat the Columbian 5-2 to help the visitors win the tie 23-14 on points.
