The Queen's Baton Relay for the 2010 Commonwealth Games Saturday continued to experience Punjabi warmth at its best as it moved along with a big convoy of cars and jeeps amid tight security in the state


Chandigarh: The Queen's Baton Relay for the 2010 Commonwealth Games Saturday continued to experience Punjabi warmth at its best as it moved along with a big convoy of cars and jeeps amid tight security in the state.

The baton arrived in India on Friday at the Attari border check-post between India and Pakistan amid camaraderie between leaders, sportspersons and people from both countries. People thronged both sides of the National Highway-1 near Amritsar and Jalandhar, to witness the spectacle.

Jarnail Singh, a 62-year-old former athlete, said: "We were waiting here since 9 am. I've come with my two grandsons as I want them to understand the significance of the Games."

"It's a marriage-like atmosphere here as we welcome the Queen's Baton. I've taken a half-day leave from office," said Mayank Aggarwal, a bank executive.
