Had it not been for the number of Indians in Canada, it's quite possible that they would not have qualified for the World Cup. As many as five members of the current Canadian squadu00a0-- skipper Ken Pereira, Wayne Fernandes, Ranjeev Deol, Gabbar Singh and Keegan Pereirau00a0-- are of Indian origin.
It made for an interesting story for some of the regional newspapers here when it was learnt that Ranjeev and Gabbar actually converse in Punjabi when on the field so as to keep their opposition guessing on strategic matters.
