Though she lost to Nayeeb Lakhani of Lady Engineer High School (Tardeo) 9-12 in the final Sarita won hearts. u00a0The daughter of a carpenter from Hawaldar Singh Chawl, Bunder Pakhadi (Kandivli) said she could not afford a tournament-size carrom board at home, but her love for the game is immense.u00a0
"This is the first time I took part in the MSSA carrom tournament. I was in awe when I saw so many carrom boards under one roof. For me, even own a full-size carrom board is like a dream. I was very nervous in the initial stages of the tournament, but somehow managed to keep winning. I never set out with the aim of winning a medal here.
It just happened," admitted the 12-year-old.u00a0Shankar Vishnu Pisal, her school physical teacher, was proud of his ward. "Sarita is a very dedicated kid and I'm proud to see her win this medal in her very first year of participation. I'm confident she will practice harder now and aim for gold next year," said Pisal.
Sarita's school mate Nikita Gupta won the bronze medal.u00a0
