Doctors serving voluntarily at CWG won't even get a certificate
Now who would want to work for the Organising Committee for the Commonwealth Games? Those who are employed by the organisers are standing in revolt and those who had offered to serve voluntarily are being refused even a pat on the back, leave alone any benefits or emoluments.
Medical volunteers for the Commonwealth Games had earlier been snubbed by the OC when they demanded conveyance allowance and now their request for participation certificates has also been turned down.
The Commonwealth Games, apart from the organisational and infrastructural setbacks, had seen mass exodus of student volunteers when they came to know that the reported remuneration of Rs 1,000 per day would not be coming. It is evident from this example how volunteers were being treated by the organisers. And the doctors are obviously not humoured.
"We are already volunteering for the event; we can at least expect a participation certificate. Our institution has told us that we will not get any certificate," said one of the medical volunteers attached to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
"We have not received any kind of information regarding the issue. Even the volunteers from our hospital are also worried about the issue," said another official from Lok Nayak Hospital, requesting anonymity.
The higher official seems to be aware about the issue but did not wish to comment.
"I cannot tell you anything about it," said Dr V P Gupta, Registrar, AIIMS.
The doctors had also been complaining about the accreditation problems. Many of the doctors deployed inside the games venue did not get their accreditation cards.
"Only few days are left and still we have not received our accreditation cards," said a Health Department official.
Delhi Health Minister Dr Kiran Walia and Organising Committee Secretary General Lalit Bhanot were both unavailable for comment.
