Dutch Oltmans appointed high performance director

Hockey India (HI) yesterday announced the appointment of Dutchman Roelant Oltmans as Director (High Performance)


HI secretary general Narinder Batra said Oltmans' appointment would ensure that a strategic programme is in place for the senior and junior men's and women's teams.

"Hockey India has been looking for a candidate that not only has the experience of High Performance Management but also understands the unique attributes of working on the sub-continent. We are confident that Roelant will bring his vast experience and knowledge into this key position" he said.

Oltmans, who coached the Dutch national team to the 1996 Atlanta Games gold, besides two FIH World Cups, three FIH Champions Trophy titles and the Euro Hockey League title, said: "There is a lot of talent in India and by having a proper plan in place we will be able to raise the level of Indian hockey in future."

Meanwhile, the Jaypee Punjab Warriors' lost at home ion Jalandhar 1-2 last night to the Uttar Pradesh Wizards in a Hero Hockey India League match at the Surjit Singh Stadium here.

Jeroen Hertzberger put the Wizards ahead in the 17th minute before Dwyer got his team back in the match with a 40th minute strike. Thern in the 58th minute, Warriors' 'keeper Jaap Stockmann inadvertently directed a hit from Wizards' skipper VR Raghunath into his own goal.u00a0
