A former British soldier has broken a world record - half way through his aim of running 100 marathons in 100 days.

Mike Buss completed his 51st marathon in 51 days at a shopping centre in Ashford, Kent, breaking the previous record of 50 marathons in 50 days.

The 36-year-old has been running on treadmills at various locations around the country since June 16 as part of his Hero 100 Challenge.

"This is an enormous challenge for me but one that I am enjoying nearly every minute of," The Scotsman quoted Buss, as saying.

"I would like to thank Chrysler for all their support since I started my campaign to become the world's fittest man," he added.

He aims to raise 100,000 pounds for the 'Help for Heroes' charity by the end of the year.

"The Hero 100 challenge will raise vital funds for Help for Heroes," he added.

He is already in the record books for continuous cycling and running in a chemical warfare suit.
