Out of favour with national team, hockey striker all set to participate in fright-conquering TV reality show
Striker Yuvraj Walmiki may have fallen out of favour with the national team management but he's finding favour in avenues that hitherto have been alien to hockey players.
Walmiki is all set to make his small screen debut with reality TV show Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi on Colors.
The Central Railway forward on Thursday spent over eight hours shooting for the launch of the show at Film City in Goregaon alongside 13 other contestants and came away amazed. (View Photos)

"I was asked all sorts of questions like, why a TV show of this nature and what happens to your hockey etc. As for this TV show, I simply said that I was always a khiladi (player) and I enjoy looking for khatra (danger) so it's only apt. And as for my hockey, this show is well timed because I will be leaving (for a shoot in Argentina) on November 5 and returning on December 11 and the Hockey India League begins from January 24 so I have enough time to train when I return," Walmiki told mid-day on Friday.

However, the 24-year-old will miss a crucial engagement for his club side, Central Railway when the Bombay Gold Cup tournament comes around on December 7.
Hope to conquer all
"I will be speaking to my employers soon and I'm sure they will release me given it's a really good opportunity for me," said Walmiki, who admittedly is bitten by the entertainment bug.
"I'm a decent dancer and have always been in awe of dance shows like Jhalak Dikhla Jaa and Nach Baliye. At Khatron, I hope to do well because I do not fear water, heights, insects or even the dark for that matter. And if, for some reason, any fear does crop up, I hope to conquer it," added the striker, whose âgoals' have temporarily shifted from the real to reel life.
