"I was never worried. People around me were panic-stricken but I was calm and composed. Actually Leander himself had not come out openly and all of it was coming through the media. I was sure that things would fall in place soon," a relieved Vardhan told PTI.
According to the youngster, he only carried on with his preparation for the mega event. "I was only focussing on my preparation and was going on with my practice regime," he added. Asked about Paes' comment that he was not sure âif he (Vardhan) had grass court shoes', the youngster said, "Maybe, he wants me to be ready, equipment wise, before the Games. I think he is concerned and just wants to make sure that I am ready."
Have the ability
Despite being a lower-ranked player, Vardhan felt he has the game, which will provide good support to Paes. "I have been named as a player who has a good game, especially the strong serve. I think it will compliment Paes' beautiful net play. Paes has always looked for a player who serves well and I think we can do well together," Vardhan felt.
Vardhan is trying to reach London soon after the Wimbledon concludes to start practising with Paes.
The 24-year-old highlighted Paes' contribution and said it's great joy for him to get to partner the legendary doubles player.
"Playing with Leander means a lot to me. What he has done for the country through tennis is incredible. Olympics is big and I will support him," Vardhan said. u00a0
