Varun finished with impressive bowling figures of 9-71 on Day Two of the third round Giles Shield Elite Division match at Cross Maidan yesterday.

Varun, who has scalped 25 wickets in the tournament so far, helped his teamu00a0 recover after they were bundled
out for 113 in 48.1 overs in the first innings. At close of play, IES Modern were 54 for the loss of five wickets.

Varun is well aware that his side are staring at defeat despite his Herculean efforts in the first innings, but the 12-year-old is not disappointed: "I'm just glad that we will not be relegated from the Elite division. I'm looking forward tou00a0 doing better next year."u00a0u00a0

The Dadar resident credited his performance to one of India's finest first-class spinners, Padmakar Shivalkar. "Before the inter-school season started, my coach Ajay Keer took me to Shivalkar Sir. The tips that he gave meu00a0 helped me take nine wickets," he said.
