"It is a difficult task to stage the players' auction during the World Cup time because players' focus will be shifted. Thus, we have decided to stick to the originally planned schedule of January 8-9. However, nothing is confirmed yet. We will announce all the details shortly," a top BCCI official told SUNDAY MiD DAY on Saturday.
This comes just weeks after the two terminated franchises ufffd Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab ufffd were asked to be reinstated to the Twenty20 league by the Bombay High Court. Kings XI were given a January 3 deadline to provide bank guarantees, while the Royals were handed a January 5 cut-off date. Sources within the franchises are confident of doing so before their respective deadlines.
The BCCI has been in a catch-22 situation on whether to continue its legal battle with the two terminated franchises. The Board authorised its president Shashank Manohar to take a decision on whether to pursue its legal battle with the two franchises. The decision was taken at the Working Committee meeting on Saturday.
