Renish nadar's solitary strike helped Don Bosco 'B' (Matunga) beat St Aloysius (Bandra) to enter the semi-finals of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-organised Oliver Andrade trophy boys' U-10 hockey tournament at St Stanislaus ground, Bandra, yesterday. In a closely contested quarter-final, Renish got the all-important goal in the 23rd minute.
Both the teams began cautiously, but soon the Bosco boys had the upper hand as they created two golden opportunities to go ahead but failed to capitalise on both. First, Renish saw his run from the half-line halted by a Stanislaus defender just before he was about to hit at goal. Then, moments later, Sufiyan Mulla failed to convert a penalty corner and the score read 0-0 at half-time.
In the second half, the Bosco were rewarded for their continuous attacks as Renish turned in a long ball from Sufiyan for the match-winner. Thereafter, St Aloysius thereafter pressed hard for the equaliser and won two penalty corners but failed to score.
