Fourteen-year-old Kaustav Chatterjee pulled off the biggest upset of the day by defeating former national rapid champion Grandmaster Sriram Jha in the third round of ongoing National Rapid Chess Championship at Bhawanipore Education Society here on Tuesday.
Also, in another third-round match, Kaustuv Kundu split points with top seed GM R.R. Laxman.
In the first round, defending champion GM Neelotpal Das failed to start on a winning note against 12-year-old Anish Rooj from West Bengal.
The second round saw talented teenager Ritam Nag force former Commonwealth champion GM Deep Sengupta to agree a draw. After three rounds of nerve-wracking fight, 18 players are leading in the tournament with three points each.
