The World No 39 escaped an extremely tough first round encounter against top seed and World No 2 Chen Long of China, who gave a walkover.

In the next round, Pawar will face Japan's Sho Sasaki against whom he has a poor 0-2 record.
Sasaki conquered China's Song Xue 21-16, 19-21, 21-14 in their first round encounter yesterday.
Meanwhile, Mumbai lad Ajay Jayaram will be seen in action today against Chen Yuekun of China.
