The 10-year-old starred with 22 points as Vibgyor High School, IGCSE (Goregaon) beat St Joseph's Convent High School (Wadala) 28-4 in the MSSA (Mumbai Schools Sports Association) girls U-11 second round game at Azad Maidan yesterday.
Dhanashri took to sprinting at six and won her maiden U-8 inter-school medal the following year. Soon after, she clinched a silver medal in the U-8 Maharashtra district level meet at Aurangabad in 2013. She recently bagged her school's best athlete award.
Second love
Her athletic prowess is helping shape her second love, basketball. "I have good height and can make the most of it in basketball. Speed becomes an added advantage for me," said Dhanashri.
Yesterday, Dhanashri struggled to get going in the first quarter and was benched for the second. However, the 10-year-old came back stronger in the third quarter, shooting baskets at will. She was more impressive in the last quarter, where she did the bulk of her scoring leaving the opposition no chance for a fightback.
