Defender Sandeep Singh drag-flicked Mumbai into the lead in the first minute of the match as the visitors won a penalty corner.
This was Sandeep's 10th goal of the tournament. However, that turned out to be the only happy moment of the match for Mumbai.
Ranchi's star drag flicker Ashley Jackson flicked in the equaliser off a penalty corner in the second quarter (29th minute).
Thereafter, a fine solo effort from Manpreet Singh in the 49th minute clinched the tie for the hosts.
Manpreet dodged past five Mumbai players before unleashing a hard hit for the winner.
