One player who could move to the bench is Juan Sebastian Veron. The 35-year-old felt a twinge in his right calf muscle during the game and was taken off after covering an impressive 8,361 metres in the heart of the Argentine midfield.
Reports suggest that there is no serious injury and that Veron will want to play against South Korea on Thursday. But Maradona may well decide to rest the player, aware that he will need him for more complicated games on the horizon. Another area of doubt was on the right hand side of defence. Midfielder Jonas Gutierrez did not shine in his split right back/midfielder role, and exposed his teamu00a0 to several defensive scares late on in the game.
In Sunday's practice it was Nicolas Burdisso who occupied the right back spot. He is a far more natural defender, although it remains to be seen if Maradona is willing to sacrifice the extra attacking potency that the Newcastle man provides the team with.
