Footballers do justice to mid day's fun at work concept
Over the years, MiD DAY has been carrying the tagline ufffd Make Work Fun. The media giants took the idea to a new level and organised a Corporate Soccer Championship involving several companies from town to soak in the festival of football with their colleagues. People from different fields working day in and day out for strenuous hours came together to form a part of the extravaganza.
Designer shoes were replaced by football studs and shin guards as the office going janta bid adieu to their regular corporate look and opted to dress in shorts and jerseys. The picnic atmosphere saw the corporate world's wives (some with babies too) and girlfriends club joining the festive mood.
The tournament, which kicked off on Saturday,u00a0 was contested between 24 teams comprising five players a side. However, only eight teams were fortunate enough to make it to the quarter-finals of the event. The teams to have qualified for the last eight were: Hutchinson 3G, Zycus, Bank of America, HDFC Bank, British Airways, Fis, Kotak Mahindra Group and Reliance Industries Limited.
The final game of the day saw Bank of America fire nine goals past the Geometric side. Vijay and Prashant scored three each while the most prolific striker of the day was Karan, who led Kotak Mahindra Group's charge with an outstanding tally of eight goals in his side's 14 in two games. Karan was closely followed by British Airways' Ganesh with five goals.
The most exciting part of the day was when a team, named Character Sketches, took the field. The team composed of veterans from the working class arena probably received the loudest of cheers as the old warhorses were more than happy to take the pitch against the younger generation. They carried the sportsman spirit on their sleeves and taught a lesson or two to the blooming brigade.
