The San Francisco Chronicle newspaper published a photograph of Jordan puffing a cigar during a practice round at Harding Park golf course a violation of San Francisco's smoking ban on public courses. Recreation and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg told the newspaper that he had asked US PGA Tour officials to remind Jordan, who led Chicago to six National Basketball Association titles in a Hall of Fame career, of the no-smoking rule.

"I've already sent off an e-mail to the PGA Tour director," Ginsburg told the newspaper.

"It was sort of a gentle nudge reminding them that smoking is illegal and that we would appreciate their support."

Those flouting the ban at Harding Park could be subject to a 100-dollar fine.

"But don't expect me to ask him for it," Matt Dorsey, a spokesman for the San Francisco city attorney, told the Chronicle.
