Mumbai's Arvil David won the U-11 state chess championship organised by the Jalgaon District Chess Association and Jain Sports Academy at Hotel President here recently.

This is Arvil's third state-level title having previously won the U-7 and U-9 state championships in 2011 and 2013 respectively.

In the deciding eighth round, Arvil drew against Mumbai's Piya Saksena and won the title with 6.5 points. In the penultimate round, she lost to Jalgaon's Bhagyashri Patil.

Then, outright wins against Narayani Adni of Nagpur and Mumbai's Yasha Shaha, played an important role en route Arvil's title trip. Bhagyashri Patil finished second while Nashik's Prachiti Chandatre finished third.
