Murray reaches fifth successive Wimbledon QF after beating Cilic

World No 4 Andy Murray whose match against Marin Cilic of Croatia was halted on Monday, beat his Croatian opponent in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 to reach his fifth successive Wimbledon quarter-final where he will meet Spain's David Ferrer.

Murray, who was troubled in the opening set by Cilic, picked up momentum at the right time, much to the delight of tennis lovers here. The rain delays didn't help though.

"They (rain delays) really put you off. Going back to the locker rooms for a long wait and then getting back on court is tough on a player," said Murray.

Murray did full justice to his high ranking and underlined the fact that he has the potential of earning his best result here.

He has been a semi-finalist for the last three years.

And of course, he was runner-up at the 2008 US Open and at the Australian Open in 2010 and 2011. His tremendous ability was there for all to see and he raised his game when it mattered the most.

Cilic, who was playing in fourth round here for the second time, was at the receiving end all the time in spite of his big serves. But Murray's confidence and aggressive play negated the Croat's prowess.

Ferrer, who is Murray's quarter-final opponent, is known for his clay court play, but Murray was quick to remind the media that Ferrer can excel on grass too.

"He won last week on grass. He has been in the semi-finals of the Australian Open and I think the semi-finals of the US Open as well. He has started to play better on grass, so I don't see him as a clay court player at all," said Murray. He was right. Ferrer beat the ninth seed Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets 6-3,6-2,6-3 in less than two hours.u00a0
