Nagaland school wins Subroto Cup

Greenwood High School from Nagaland lifted the Under-14 boys trophy in the 55th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, beating Government Model High School, Chandigarh 5-4 on penalties in the final at the Ambedkar Stadium here Tuesday


New Delhi: Greenwood High School from Nagaland lifted the Under-14 boys trophy in the 55th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, beating Government Model High School, Chandigarh 5-4 on penalties in the final at the Ambedkar Stadium here Tuesday.

The match was tied goalless after regulation time. The winning team got a pay cheque of Rs.2.5 lakh and the runners-up team received Rs.1.25 lakh.

Kito, Tokavi, Imlong Chaba, Nighatu and Ngangshi Menen converted their penalties for the winning team while Sumit Rathi, K. Amarjeet Singh, Jeakson and Dalbir hit the target from the spot for the beaten finalists.

Harsh Bartwan of the Chandigarh team was adjudged the best player of the tournament. Jesse and Mughato Sumi of Nagaland were chosen as the best keeper and coach of the tournament, respectively. They received Rs.40,000 each. Namchi Sports Hostel from Sikkim got the fairplay award.

Bartwan got the best player's award pocketing Rs.40,000. Eugeneson E. Shylla from Meghalaya received the best promising player's award.
