A head-on collision between a minibus and an oil tanker killed nine Afghan football fans and injured 28 others overnight as they headed to Kabul for the final of the country's first premier league, police said yesterday.
The league has been greeted with great enthusiasm in Afghanistan, with the final yesterday between teams from the north and the west expected to draw huge crowds.
The fans were on their way from northern Jawzjan province to Kabul on Thursday night when they died on one of Afghanistan's dangerous roads. - Agencies
