Malaysia's Misbun Ramdan Mohmed Misbun showed why he is highly rated in badminton circles with an authoritative 21-15, 21-11 straight sets win over Aditya Elango in the first round of the USD 15,000 prize money Tata Open India International Challenge at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) courts yesterday.

Misbun Ramdan, who is the son of former Malaysian national coach and singles ace Misbun Sidek, is World No 1 Lee Chong Wei's training partner. It is Wei's strict ways that has helped the World No 122 sharpen the finer aspects of his game.

"I like Lee's attitude and I wish I can emulate him someday. He doesn't behave like a World No 1 with us. He is like an elder brother scolding us and making sure we don't repeat our mistakes. He makes me slog like hell on court, but that has made me tough," said Misbun Ramdan. Another reason behind the 20-year-old's rapid and constant improvement is that he gets to train a lot more with his father, whou00a0 resigned as Malaysia's coach in 2010.

"He has more time for me now. Whenever I have any issues with my game, he's always around to help."u00a0 Having a dad as famous and renowned as Sidek also has its side effects, admitted Misbun Ramdan. "It has taken quite some years for me to get out my dad's shadow.

I was always under pressure, as people back home expected me to win all the time. But it's only recently that I have realised that there is no point playing under pressure. I always remember my dad's words before any match: 'Don't care about who you are and play your natural game without thinking of the outcome'," added Misbun Ramdan, who is a big fan of Indian food.

"I love chicken biryani, butter chicken and naan.u00a0 I gorge all of it when I come here and I miss Indian food in Malaysia," he said.
