Even as cricket fever slowly and surely grips the nation with the ICC World Cup beginning on February 19, followed byu00a0 the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League T20 tournament, other sports are bound to be ignored.
Former World billiards champion Michael Ferreira believes it is the people, who are responsible for the current situation. "It's people like you and me, who are responsible. We all will be hooked on to our TV sets for this World Cup, which is not the case when it comes to any other sports. People have just not embraced other sports the way they have embraced cricket," Ferreira told MiD DAY on the sidelines of the announcement of the Om Agrawal Billiards and Snooker Promotional Series to be held in Mumbai and Pune over the next few months. The first series will be held at the Bombay Gymkhana from February 22 to March 1.
Ferreira felt only hockey can compete with cricket on the popularity front. "But, sadly, politics is making it very difficult for even hockey to compete," Ferreira signed off.
