Awadhe Warriors came out all guns blazing against the Pune Pistons in their Indian Badminton League clash at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad yesterday and consequently emerged 3-2 victors.

Though the scoreline
suggests a closer battle, the Warriors, in fact, won their first three match-ups of the night and straightaway went into an unassailable 3-0 lead. In the opening men's singles tie yesterday, Awadhe's K Srikanth beat Pune's Sourabh Varma in straight games 21-18, 21-16 to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Thereafter, Awadhe's PV Sindhu beat Pune's Juliane Schenk 21-20, 21-20 to make it 2-0. In the men's doubles then Warriors' Marcis Kido and Mathias Boe comfortably got the better of Pune's Arun Vishnu and Sanave Thomas 21-15, 21-16 to make it 3-0.

The next two match-ups went in favour of Pune, but had no real bearing on the outcome of the match. In the second men's singles tie, Pune's Nyugen Tien Minh beat Awadhe's RMV Gurusai 21-12, 21-18. In the mixed doubles, Pune's Ashwini Ponnappa and Joachim Fischer Nielsen beat Awadhe's Marcis Kido and Pia Zebadiah Bernadet 21-16, 21-14. Sindhu was adjudged player of the tie and won USD 500 for her effort.
