Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi remained on course for a collision in the final of the US Open Men's Doubles event as both cemented their places in the quarterfinals with some solid performances in their respective matches.

Paes and Lukas Dlouhy came through a close encounter against the Austrian pairing of Julain Knowle and Jurgen Melzer, 7-5, 6-4 while Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles got through their duel against Yen-Hsun Lu and Dudi Sela, 6-4, 6-4.

Paes and Dlouhy face the number 7 seeds Wesley Moodie and Dick Norman in the quarters while Bhupathi and Knowles take on Ivan Ljubicic and Michael Llodra.

Later in the day, Paes, partnering Cara Black also reached the semi-finals of the mixed doubles against Rennae Stubbbs and Robert Lindstedt. The second seeds won the first set 7-5 but lost the second 6-3 to set up a 10-point super tie-breaker.

The Indo-Zimbabwean pair raced to victory with a 10-6 win in the tie-breaker.
