Top seeds Vera Zvonareva and Ana Ivanovic both made it through to the second round of the Pattaya Open in Thailand with straight-sets victories.
Zvonareva is looking to win her third successive Pattaya title and she enjoyed a straightforward 6-4 6-2 victory over Tamira Paszek of Austria.
Former World No 1 Ivanovic enjoyed an even more comprehensive victory over local wildcard Nudnida Langnam to ease to a 6-0, 6-2 win as she looks to improve on her ranking of 19th.
However, seventh seed Zheng Jie fell at the first hurdle as she was beaten 6-4 7-6 (8/6) by Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan. Eighth seed Sara Errani fared better as she edged out Chang Kai-Chen 4-6 6-2 6-4.
Other winners included Elena Baltacha, Ayumi Morita ufffd who beat local player Tamarine Tanasugarn ufffd and Nungnadda Wannasuk.
