Karnataka skipper upbeat about his team's chances in Ranji Trophy final against Mumbai today

The contrast between the two Ranji Trophy finalists is hard to miss. While hosts Karnataka have been all-conquering, Mumbai have toiled their way to the final. And while most Karnataka players have never been in a final, most of Mumbai's players have been part of the trophy-winning side.

With Karnataka's form and inexperience taking on Mumbai's surprising mediocrity and ability to rise from the dust time and again, the match has the makings of a cracker.

But Karnataka skipper Robin Uthappa, filling in for Rahul Dravid, is not the one to be cowed by Mumbai's frequent comebacks or the amazing record in the tournament. The opener believes his side has everything needed to come out trumps.

"How many times they have won is only for the record books. I don't think it counts for this game. They still have to play another match... they still have to come here for another five days... they still have to turn up in the morning and play," Uthappa said.

"We have done exceedingly well and are focusing on our strengths. We have not lost a game... we have not given the lead away this season. Those are the positives we are looking at and we are looking to carry on with that confidence," the skipper said, dismissing the thought that lack of experience could hurt his side against a team like Mumbai.

"I am playing my first final as well. I am looking at it as another game. For most of them in the dressing room, it is their first time. All of them are very excited. We are all very conscious about sticking to the routines. We are focusing on the process that is very important. We have been doing that for the last three days in our preparation and are looking to do that in the game as well," Uthappa said.

Mumbai's Ajit Agarkar feels preparing a green top is a positive move. "Karnataka's seamers have been instrumental in getting them to the final and if they keep the grass for them it is a positive move as they are not thinking about the opposition.
