Three-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan was carpeted after making a lewd gesture during his opening match of the World Snooker Championships here that saw him open up a 7-2 overnight lead against Liang Wenbo.

A miss in the seventh frame saw O'Sullivan flick his middle finger in the ball's direction, earning him a warning from referee Colin Humphries.

The 34-year-old has often clashed with officialdom and in 1996 and 2008 earned financial penalties ufffd the second time for making lewd comments during a press conference in China.
